Serious Question by UpperEastSideIrish

For those who think this post is absurd, a “howler” or just plain doesn’t provide due deference wrt the disease, let me ask this -

We’ve never developed a vaccine for a Corona Virus, including SARS. If we’re sitting here next July and we don’t have a vaccine and we’re still seeing spread, does your attitude change? We’re seeing plenty of data now showing that those who got the disease early on are experiencing reduced antibodies. So knowing that fact, and knowing that Corona virus immunity is typically only 1-2 years anyway, would you still keep people away from each other to prevent spread (and prevent the natural progression of a disease that kills it off)?

These are serious questions. They affect our health, our economy, our families. And one thing the poster mentions is group think.

I happen to agree that we have some group think going on. Big time. 97% of deaths are people over 60. And in NY, where I live, we still haven’t even fixed our nursing home issue. But we are really good at shutting down restaurants. Dozens of small businesses in the city have closed permanently. And you have to ask - if the immunity in 25%-40% of the city population that we built up is gone by the beginning of next year, what should our next step be?

I’m not trying to be snarky - just curious what people think.
