To what I read as your suggestion that if sports cannot be played we might as well just be go hide in bed. Your reply suggests you didn’t really mean that and I’ll chalk it up to a bit of embellishment directed at one with a flair for the same.

On the list of things I want them to figure out, though, sports is relatively low on my list, and contact sports are low on my “things I’m optimistic about them figuring out.” But clearly the demand is there and, if it’s figured out how to do safely, then of course I would have no issue with playing, and maybe there will be a NASA effect where developments have benefits in other spaces too. But I’d really first like to see a good plan for returning to in person education before I start worrying about sports.

And I’d also disagree with what I think is your premise that if we can’t figure out how to eliminate risks with returning to school we might as well proceed with sports too. It’s still increasing risk over and above that of returning. Only if they can figure out how to minimize that incremental risk would I think sports worth it.
