Something wrong when this recruit was offered so late (Long) by Hickster

Dallas Turner (WDE) #2 WDE National Recruit and Top 50 Overall recruit (based upon 247 combined rankings), if he committed to ND he would perhaps be ND’s 2nd highest rated recruit in the class of 2021. ND just offered on 6/3.

I would expect that ND should have its criteria for offers based upon the following priority order:
1. Football - Athletic Skills: Can they perform at a high level?
2. Academic Qualifications: Can they succeed as an ND student & an additional bonus of are current academics strong so ND should be more attractive as a priority for the recruit.
3. Fit: Culture of ND right for the recruit and for ND as a teammate. The so-called “RKG.” A leading indicator, without face-to-face talks, would be does the recruit go to and perform well at a private school with generally stricter standards, especially a Catholic school. Going to a Catholic school is usually a plus towards ND, rather than the disinformation about ND being a Catholic school from other recruiters

The information that indicates that this was an extremely late offer is:
- Elite Talent: consistent 4-Star recruit
... #84 National Recruit 7/31/19
... #257 11/26/19
... #165 2/28/20
... #124 4/15/20
... #46 5/15/20

- Cohort: 31 Offers, including:
... LSU 2/1/18
... Tennessee 1/24/19
... Florida 3/23/19
... Miami 10/21/19
... FSU 11/3/19
... Georgia 11/26/19 (predicted favorite by 75%)
... Penn St. 12/4/19
... Alabama 12/5/19 (predicted favorite by 25% - most recent predictions to Alabama)
... NORTHWESTERN 1/18/20 (Academic Cohort - multiple Flairs should have gone off)
... Michigan 1/17/20
... Ohio St. 1/31/20
... Oklahoma 3/22/20
... STANFORD 4/4/20 (More difficult to get an initial offer from Stanford than ND)
... Clemson 4/23/20
... NOTRE DAME 6/3/20

- Fit:
... transferred to St. Thomas Aquinas in Ft. Lauderdale from American Heritage

ND has offered:
- 11 WDEs (1 commitment from a 3-Star from a Catholic HS, who appears to be a strong/underrated prospect and #1 recruit from RI)
- 15 SDEs (1 commitment, but is now leaning toward switching to Oklahoma - Ranked #333 National Recruit and #22 SDE)

I am very surprised that this offer is just going out. He appears to check-off the list and a recruit that ND should have been all over months ago. Coach Kelly should look at this as an example of why this happened and how to fix it going forward. It does not mean that an earlier offer would have landed this recruit, but sure would have greatly improved ND’s chances.

If he is looking to get Top 5 recruiting classes, this is an example of how this should be corrected - actions speak louder than words. Currently ND has the #15 ranked Recruiting class with only 10 verbal commits (maybe now only 9 verbals), and I do not see a high level of interest from a lot of other Elite recruits (I hope ND lands OG Rocco Spindler. I understand the rationale now is that Covid-19 means some recruits want to stay closer to home, but Covid-19 should also mean that recruits should be aware that a strong education should be a current priority more now than ever. This is not a Covid-19 miss in extending an offer.

ND needs to do better at identifying elite/qualified/RKG Recruits as early as possible, and then putting themselves in the best position to secure their commitment.
