$200,000 a year player and the average teacher salary in 1973 was slightly over $10,000 a year. In 2023, the average teacher salary was $68, 000. Did the highest paid player make 20 times that last year (like he did 50 years earlier- $1,360,000)? No. Maybe just a tad more than that. $58 million for Max Scherzer. About 850 times what the average teacher makes. I have my own thoughts about that, but I'll just throw it out there for food for thought.

Many occupations have similar gaps between those who have made it big and those struggling to survive (MLB superstar to minor leaguer, marquee actor to hopeful, probably true for lawyers etc.)

There's a lot of disparity between pay received and value/difficulty of jobs
