is that even when they've drawn well (e.g., they led MLB in attendance in 1976), they drew significantly better for Friday-Saturday-Sunday games than midweek games, with the exception of Opening Day which is a big tradition there. I assume this is because a large portion of the Reds fan base lives outside the Cincinnati metro area, and it would be easier for such fans to travel to Cincinnati for weekend games than midweek ones.

June 23, 1971 was a Wednesday, and as you note, the Phillies were bad (although the Reds started nearly as poorly as the Phils that year, and they never got over .500). The Reds drew in the mid-30s the preceding weekend against a middling Braves team.
