Here's today's story in the Post-Gazette on Rob Carmody's commitment.
Some good stuff in here. Clearly, Coach Brey did his homework. It also mentions Carmody's friendship with Phil Jurkovec that goes back to 3rd grade.
And mostly what I need from you.
These young HS recruits often seem to look at the last 3 or so years of history (13 to 17 years old) when judging a program or its coaches. Obviously, some of the big names have a long history that everyone knows..Duke, UNC, etc. I'm guessing that Brey, who most of us have been following for his entire career at ND and believe is a very good coach, may not have been recognized as such by these very young kids until ND started getting into the Elite Eight at the Tourney.
It's probably futile to try to determine, yet generalize, what's in the minds of teenagers, but the above struck me as a probable determining factor.
We have had some exciting players lately....Grant, Connaughton,Farrell, VJ, and Bonzie are fun to watch. A lot of guys down here in N.C. have told me that even though they are UNC, NC State, or Duke fans, that they like to watch ND because they like the players and love the style the team plays with.
That'd be cool!
Coming back to earth, Robby Carmody continues the 2018 recruiting momentum; who is next?
ND join the ACC as an all-sport member or be shown the door. I hope Carmody hits him in the nutsack.
Excellent addition and another fine job by Brey and staff:
loved Matt Carroll as a player, and he's the gift that keeps giving.
Throw out a bunch of offers to top recruits at the same position and say "first one to commit gets in."
Now if we really want to be like Duke, we need to start recruiting over guys.
Certainly Duke is significantly different since Kyrie.
But point taken.
and it's only June. I can't help but believe the new practice facility has contributed to this uptick in recruiting. The future of the program is really, really bright. Congrats to Coach Brey and the staff.
Am I missing someone?
Let's hope his ball tapping days are behind him.
I'm actually fairly confident that he'll be a good soldier. Or he'll wash out. Either way, I doubt we'll have to deal with any Grayson Allen bullshit.
I wouldn't like it but I'd deal with it. Having seen him play 10 times or so he's not on the level of an Allen as a player. I hope he progresses but I don't see a top 100 player when I watch him.
I'm sure Brey is well aware of those antics, but will only address it if continues. And by continues, I mean his senior season in high school.
