I went to the Capital Classic on Saturday at the Verizon Center. DJ played for the local team that lost to the US team. Harvey struggled at first but played better later. Think he had 10 points. He is strong, can handle and can fly. He played point forward on occasion. Can handle well enough to do so. Has nice outside shot but did not hit any that I recall. Had a monster dunk which excited the crowd. Linked is Post article that has video including the dunk. He will be a very good player for the Irish. He just needs to focus and play hard all the time. I think Brey will be just what he needs.
Other players of interest to Irish fans were Chris Lykes, a Gonzaga High 5-8 point guard. We wanted him but he committed to Miami. He is lightening quick and can shot very well. HE was Washington Post Player of the Year. Had a poor Classic however. His shot was very cold. We also recruited Luke Garza a 6-11 center from Maret in DC. I heard fans say they did not like him because they saw him as a slow white center who could not jump. He committed to Iowa. This kid can play. He was the local MVP. Hustled, rebounded and scored. While he is not leaper, he positions himself well. Can shoot inside and from 3. I spoke to his high school coach, Chuck Dreisell, after the game. Chuck is lefty's son. He raved about Garza. I asked what happened with ND. HE said ND came in on him late. He was about to make a trip to South Bend, but changed his mind committing to Iowa before the trip. What I liked most about Garza is that he played defense and hustled. YOu don't see that in an All Star game. Maret is not in hte DC Catholic league but plays pretty good ball. In fact they played Gonzaga, the City champ and he scored 37.
