Matt Ryan will be our next commit and we won't see a '14 commit this summer.
Does anyone know who is behind this Twitter handle?
Care to share who it is, or am I not part of the circle of trust?
EDIT - Just saw your reply to fbirish's post below; if it's him, forgive me for being dense.
In a summer league game he made a nice steal but a quick guard was
pursuing from behind and made up a lot of ground--Matt jumped off of one
foot quickly dunked the ball with authority. I didn't think he had that kind
of explosiveness in that body.
He's a big time shooter right now but I saw a kid who will become a man
over the next several years.
Sign him! He's a three year starter and a likely 1500 point scorer.
Any thoughts on that?
We seem to be getting the athletes now that can play better defense than the ones we had in the past. We are getting players that are faster, quicker and longer in total. Would Matt be a good addition in that vein or is he mostly a stretch the defense shooter?
I was trying to get an idea of what a 1500 point career scorer means. I assumed 30 games a year for 4 years. That would mean 12.5 points a game over 4 years. That would be very impressive. Gody averaged 19 points a game for some perspective (2476 points).
He plays good position defense and often in HS he is asked to defend
post players because of his size.
I think he will guard the opposing team's 3 men. He will be long and be a
similar defender to PC just several inches bigger.
He is much more than a shooter who stretches the floor He feeds the post well,he uses his dribble to get good passing angles. He sees the floor and
makes his team mates better.
A kid his size will give ND the ability to switch all ball crosses and
and outside screens. This is becoming more and more prevalent in CBB now
If he were as a good defender as he is offensively well-- it might be
difficult to get him.
A lot depends on how his physical maturity evolves.
IMO he a 4 star or a 4 plus player as a senior.
I saw him once and said to myself, " He has ND written all over him".
they have already offered him for the 2015 year.
I think it would be tough for him to commit early unless he has always wanted to go to ND and is just sold. I think players would like to know who they will be playing with and we do not even have a 2014 commit yet.
but it is not unusual for prospects to commit before their junior year if they are sold on the school/program/coaches.
15-16 eligibilty remaining
SF/SG- Cam, 1
SF/SG- VJ, 2
PF/SF- Burgett likely 1
PF Torres, likely 3 (who in a way is regarded as a 2014 recruit)
PF Katenda, hard to say 1-2?
C Zach, 1
PG DJ- 2
SG Vasturia, 2
Unless Ryan can play some 4, I agree with FB Irish that his ceiling is a 3 year starter, as ND will be in good shape with experienced 2/3's.
Are you saying this based on Pat being at best 6'4 and Ryan (who is listed now at 6'5 to 6'6) will be at least 6'7 when he enters college.
I get the feeling that it would not surprise you for ND to receive a verbal from Ryan before they do from someone in the 2014 class.
As always, great analysis on your end.
