Jessie Govan a 6'8 1/2" 6'9" center out of St.Mary's, Manhasset N.Y.
He's probably a Top 20 national player and he has a bright future.
He catches the ball well, has a soft touch with both hands around
the basket and has good post footwork.
He is quick off his feet and stays vertical when trying to block shots.
Most of his blocked shots come from the man he is guarding but, I can see
him being a shot blocker from the weak side in time.
He's probably weighs 225 or so right now but you can see him being 6'10"
240 in his freshman year in college.
He is raw and young but, man he is going to be good. He uses his upper body
well and shoots an old fashioned hook shoot. When he learns the jump hook
he will be very tough to guard. Teach him a post counter move to his left
and he could be lights out in the middle.
George Mason was in early and now UVA and Arizona have offered. ND has
called his HS coach. At worst he is a three year ACC starter with plenty
of minutes as a freshman. At best he plays two years and is a high NBA
first round pick.
My approach if I were ND would be to say, " You are exactly what we need
to be a top ACC program and advance in the Tournament, we will have many
outstanding deep shooters to open up the post for you to get to work."
We have a 5 Star PG but you Jessie, can help us beat Duke and Carolina."
Lastly, I would say, "You will be the next outstanding ND NBA player but
before that you can be an All American at ND, plus, just like Troy Murphy
you can complete your degree at one of the best academic institutions
in America after your professional BB career".
He is from the same area as Ty Nash and some of his coaches growing up
also coached Ty. Get Ty involved if you can
ND BB needs big time HS recruits to visit in order to build on the ACC
buzz. Get one top big man no one expects you to get and the perception
of ND BB starts to change.
