i saw we were out rebounded by one
also turned the ball over three more times
box score looked like mcdermott didn't get much help putting the ball in the hole.
Adreian Payne fouling out while playing only 12 minutes didn't the front line match-ups, but the bigger problem was that defending screen-roll and give and go were foreign concepts to Team USA. Maybe that's to be expected, at least a little, when a team has a month to prepare; but one on one defense wasn't good either. Ferrell is about the only guy who consistently stayed between his man and the basket.
sounds like both PG play - and interior D were the difference
maybe we can beat the canucks at hockey now...
Holy hell, the interior play was awful. Both offensively and defensively. I realize, the team was expecting Hammons to be the center and him having to bow out of the tryout process due to the family emergency, left them shorthanded. The interior defense was atrocious.
It also looked (to me at least) like the whole team makeup was a bit unorthodox. Not even making medal play is, uh, a minor disaster. I realize, there's a whole selection committee with many of the top collegiate coaches but this team just seemed flawed from the beginning.
going to Lawrence, KS, for the summer.
I know he grew up in Toronto and all, but considering his dad is American, I'd hope we have at least reached out to him if it isn't too late already.
Both made the decision (18ish months ago) to be in the Canadian national developmental system program. Have already been playing for Jr Team Canada.
I just read the linked article about the fortuitous timing of immigration (many of the current young Canadians are of Caribbean decent) and the Raptors giving young kids there local basketball role models rather than the traditional hockey, and it's incredible how they've gone from a basketball backwater (other than Nash) to a team with tons of NBA lottery-caliber guys. OTOH, in addition to Wiggins, they have the recent #1 pick Bennett, Tristan Thompson, Kabongo, Cory Joseph, Stauskas, the Gonzaga kids, and a few more college guys whom I can't remember now. They're still very young, but I'd take my chances with that roster over all but a few other teams within the next 3-5 years.
or Canada team. I'm not sure what his citizen status is but apparently he's Canadian.
Was there a reason McGary was not invited to the try-out?
Maybe staff considerations with your own players? Obviously, Beilein was on the staff, possibly restrictions due to the staff?
I assume some kids around the country just didn't want to tryout for whatever reason. Maybe the travel. Summer School. Family considerations. Working out/lifting with teammates. Part-time work. Being a kid and having summer fun on campus etc. Just speculation on my part.
