I was unfamiliar with him prior to reading the article. It's reassuring to know that there are still some decent folks making a mark in the increasingly sleazy world of high school hoops. Mr. Konchalski has a keen understanding of what it means to be a good man and a good Catholic, and he knows the importance of both.
Tom was the High School Consultant for the 1990's publication "Big East Briefs", which gave monthly updates for all Big East Conference members' recruiting efforts. I subscribed throughout that decade. Alas, due to the emerging internet sources and other websites, this printed monthly newsletter was discontinued circa 2001. It was, at the time, a pretty good publication, (much better than Bob Gibbon's All-Star Reports and other products aimed at recruitniks such as myself. I also subscribed to Hoop Scoop and Recruiter's Handbook for limited stretches.) I have never met Tom, but I enjoyed his contributions to BEB and admire his strong commitment to our Faith.
So much is written and known about the cesspool that big-time college basketball recruiting has become. It's nice to read about a counter-example.
to say the least.
He's also a great evaluator of talent.
He also has a photographic memory. To see
that in action is remarkable.
I know MB spoke to TK on both KMac and EA.
