IMO, Brey is too nice at times and his teams often lack a killer instinct. I see a connection between the two. To be great, a coach has to be a bit unbalanced and have an unhealthy obsession with winning. Great coaches aren't content to win; they want to pound the crap out of the other team 24 by 7. The mindset is "We are bettert than you and we are going to let you know it." They don't stop. If you are beating a team by pressing, why stop when you are ahead? Run the !)!! into the ground.
After the 5 OT game, fans and the media were singing Brey's praises. In hindsight would you rather him or Pitino, with all his warts? Brey's the nicer person; I would want my son playing for Rick.
