Missouri always has been and will be a better basketball job. But no Canes fans (I think there are about 7 of us that root for Canes hoops) were broken up about losing him as a coach.
My number one issue is that I don't think he's a very good coach. He came to Miami on his reputation as an elite recruiter. Miami can't expect much regular success in hoops but 1 NCAA appearance in 5 years is an odd way to get a better gig. First season at Mizzou was a 2 seed and first round exit. Another fist round exit this year.
And then there's the Nevin Shapiro issue. Every Miami fan will acknowledge that Miami violated NCAA rules. We may disagree with some of the allegations in the Yahoo report or even point out that many of the salacious details are not even NCAA violations at all. We can also disagree whether Miami has suffered enough but there is no disagreement or doubt about the single, largest allegation of an NCAA violation.
Yahoo/Nevin said Miami paid 10k for a basketball recruit and that Haith and his assistants had knowledge. That's not a drink or a steak dinner at the club. That's serious. If proven true, Miami AND Haith should be punished severely. It sucks that it could fall on Larranaga's shoulders as he seems like a genuine guy.
You can look at the flip side and say that he recruited most of the players that made this season the best in Canes history. He also had good graduation rates and put a good number of guys on the ACC All Academic team.
