They essentially freeze him out for the last year and a half only to let him go for a modest transfer fee?

Could it be that they actually just did the right thing for the player?

They killed his market value by sitting him for a year and a half.
They wanted him to go on loan last year

I don't know why players choose to "fight" for their position when they are out of favor.
Also they have a good shot at promotion

I'm sure he learned quite a bit just training with Bayern's 18, but he does need to start playing and had only gotten some CL group play time this year, I believe.

I am glad he's staying in Germany.
