That’s how these primaries used to work. When candidates bowed out, they extracted modifications to the endorsee’s platform (and/or a position in their administration) prior to giving their endorsement. You may say that’s unprincipled in this case because Trump would be the endorsee, but I wouldn’t (depending on the nature of the changes).
