in 2011 the #1 seeds were UConn, Stanford, Baylor and Tennessee in that order. We were the highest #2 and were sent to Dayton. UConn was the #1 overall. We beat UT and thus got UConn.
in 2012, we were the #3 #1 seed, UConn was the #2 #1 seed.
in 2013, we were the #2 #1 seed, UConn was the #3 #1 seed. UConn wasn't dropping to 4th no matter what. And let's say they did, we still would have had to beat them for the title.
The committee doesn't look at the bracket and say let's see how we can screw the BE. Now do they look to create good match ups? sure. It's why they had UT-Stanford possibly lined up and Cal-Stanford. But because Walz pulled off the upset it skewed the F4.
Bottomline, if ND wants to win the National Title they had to beat UConn at some point. the last two years they did that and came up short against the Big 12.
