last season? Not sure what this season's numbers looked like.
And if ND hosted the BET, don't you think the arena would be fairly well filled? WBB doesn't need the YUM Center or Hartford for the BET. Purcell would have been fine. Room rates, dining, and gas are cheap here, compared to the East Coast. The trip here would have been cheaper for programs and fanbases, compared to a trip to NYC or CT, the most expensive places in the country as far as cost of living is concerned. Good promotion for the BET could draw respectable crowds for the first round when the bigger guns aren't playing, IMO.
Similar situation with hockey. WHY play in large arenas to empty seats? Put the NCAA tounrment on campus. Fill smaller arenas rather than hope for the best with large ones. MBB needs larger arenas than Purcell at tournment time. That, I understand. But WBB isn't at the point where a building that "only" houses 9000 fans should be deemed unacceptable for the BET. What IS unacceptable is giving the dominant team the home court advantage on a yearly basis.
Not that it means anything, since neither ND or UConn are part of the Big East anymore. Enjoy dominanting a shitty conference, Luigi. At least your ego will continue to be well fed with wins.
