UCONN's strategy was to take out both Diggins and McBride and they accomplished it. While they had more turnovers than ND, the Huskies shot 46+% to the Irish 30%.
While KML is UCONN's most dangerous player -- She can shoot 3's like most players can make layups -- Stewart was free enough to score and take pressure off of KML. Braker didn't do the defensive job on Stewart that was needed.
I thought ND had the right attitude entering this game. They were not intimidated by UCONN. That was obvious in the first 10 mins of the game, but after that, UCONN's pressure wore on Diggins and McBride and they let frustration take them over. In a sense, they let UCONN into their heads.
So I guess Geno was prophetic, UCONN was not going to lose to ND 4 straight times.
