Minus Kiel and Nichols, what is our scholarship count?

I know that based on the recruits we just signed, it looked like we might have to say no to some 5th years who might have otherwise stayed. Now, I have to imagine certain guys are shoo-ins, and even a couple fringe players may be able to stick around.

count

Minus Kiel and Nichols, I believe we would be at 83 spots (including Watt, Martin, Fox, and Calabrese).

Two of Tausch, Stockton, and Golic could come back for a 5th year.

this doesn't count Joey Brooks

Will he count against football scholarships? Is he a "walk-on"?

They're going to use a FB scholarship on Brooks?? *

If he makes the team in the Fall, I believe he will have....

....a football scholarship.

He would be taking one that otherwise would have gone to a walk-on.

It sounded like his scholarship would go from BB to FB

At least from the SBT article this morning:

"Brooks, with a career scoring average of 2.3 points in 80 basketball games (including eight starts), likely will go on scholarship if his football experiment carries into the fall."

If I remember right, FB has higher priority than BB.

So if he participates in football, he's a counter for football (and ceases being a counter for basketball).

I'm not sure when the change takes effect; I would have thought that it would be immediately if he starts practicing with the team in the spring.

If I recall from Yeatman ...

The scholarship doesn't have to count against football until he appears in a game. That said, it's been a few years since I looked at the exact "stashing" rules.

(It ended up being irrelevant for Will, who ended up on FB scholarship from the start thanks to landing neither of Lewis/McCoy)

FWIW, Stockton has been tweeting about "camp"

I would have thought he was a lock to not come back but maybe that's wrong

If he is coming back, that's a big surprise

He doesnt even seem to get minutes in garbage time. He has 1 tackle in his career.

I think he was recruited to play a penetrating 4-3 DT, but he seems undersized even for that. Had a decent recruiting cohort. According to Rivals he had a USC, UCLA, Tenn & North Carolina offer

that for all the worry about recruiting scholarships, these things seem to sort themselves out.

don't forget walk-ons

to get a 5th year if they were available. So essentially we have two scholarships to allocate to whomever? What about that walk-on transfer punter?

The transfer K/P were not promised scholarships

at least according to anything that was published. If either ended up winning a job, he would almost definitely be awarded a scholarship for the following year.

The transfer doesn't have a "following year".

The recruited freshman walkons do, of course.
