Why do people insist on making these kinds of comparisons?

The only kind of comparison I find worthwhile is comparing identical twins who were separated at birth and were raised in different families. At least there is a controlling DNA element that would make the comparison mildly worthwhile. Comparing two players or two teams or two coaches or two schools, possibly making comparison of things many years apart, etc. just makes no sense. There are innumerable variables and no control variables, so how can you draw any kind of meaningful conclusions? This is just a big waste of ether ink.
