I see what you're saying, but I don't buy that meta-concept. If we're still talking about this tomorrow, I might agree with you.
On the other hand, while I think Rome's words are meaningless to all but his network, corporate sponsors and listeners, I have no problem with his apology. He said something stupid and apologized for it. El K and presumably others -- particularly those in college or alums -- didn't construe his stupid statements as bullying. But others -- e.g., high school bandies, and those who bully them -- surely might have, as it is the type of language bullies are prone to use.
