I don't think that's the assumption people are making at all. Motta demonstrated a general lack of athleticism for his position -- he was measurably slow (4.83) and weak (11 reps). The S&C program is just one component of it -- as is recruiting, nutrition, and coaching. Motta plays faster on film and hits like a truck, but there's no denying that Notre Dame still lags considerably behind from a pure athleticism point-of-view. Case in point is that T'eo and Motta were two of the best defenders on a good team -- they weren't slouches, but the combine has revealed significant deficiencies. What causes those deficiencies, and what effect they'll manifest on the football field in the long run (both for ND and former ND players in the NFL) is what remains to be seen.
