The S&C discussion aside, Motta has really hurt his stock.

He's ran the slowest (4.75) 40 out of all the defensive backs and safeties, and was 40th/49 for bench press. Those 40 times are unofficial, but a bad time tends to stay a bad time, and if anything will be slower once it's official.

He was drawing a lot of comparisons to being a "poor mans Harrison Smith" (aka, a white safety from ND), but his measurables aren't stacking up. He was predicted as a top 100 pick, but that stock is dropping fast right now.

the bench press number is misleading

as it lumps all dbs in together which would be like lumping DL and OLB together.

I wonder how he tested compared to the other safeties.

Dead last. 18th of 18.

The leader is Shamarko Thomas from Syracuse - he benched 28 times (and also ran a 4.38 unofficial). He's also short - 5'9.

There were 7 safeties who didn't bench. So he has that going for him.

Edit: was curious about Shamarko Thomas's arm length, if significantly shorter than Motta's (considering Motta is 5 inches taller than Thomas). However, Thomas's arms are 31.5" and Motta's are 31.375". So there goes that theory.

I have to say, Thomas beats him in the name department

as well.

How did he end up at Syracuse and not FSU? Bobby Bowden must be disappointed.

And Motta's official is 4.83. Yikes. *

I hope he's ready for his pro day; this is a pretty deep draft at his position I believe and that position is usually not valued very high by the NFL in terms of draft selection (likely behind QB, OT, CB, WR, OLB/DE, DT/NG at least).

That's too slow even for a pizza delivery man

Good thing Motta did not go to Michigan.
