On both sides I think there's a tendency to hang preconceived and absolute conclusions from such gossamer thread as subject lines and fuzzy memory of a poster's history. Of course, some poster's reputations are well-earned and in fact cultivated by their holders, but that's another story. I know I've fallen many times into the trap of already forming an angry reply on reading a subject line before even clicking into the post. I'm working on staying neutral until I read the full thing, even for some of those reputation types.
Perhaps the most accurate comment the Chicago Trib has made on anything ND-related in many a year was to call this board "uproariously over-caffeinated." Many would do well to lift their fingers from the keys for several seconds before firing off a reply, myself included.
EDIT: I just realized a bit of irony in the fact that I opened my post with "On both sides" - I've already preconceived two buckets to place people into, at the very beginning of a post in which I lament confirmation bias and divisiveness. Frailty, thy name is self.
