The dead snap has been getting more popular lately. Pop Warner invented it back in the 1920s. The article goes in depth about it, but it eliminates errors. Made me think of last year. Though doubt it would help in a hurricane

I've seen centres holding the ball like that but never noticed the ball after snap. Such a minor thing, but its so critical!
