Bob McGinn has covered the Packers for over 30 years and is known for access to anonymous scout comments over the years regarding the Packers, their opponents, etc.

Here are excerpted comments from Sunday's paper on Te'o, Eifert, and Motta. He has them all in a group of players rated from #19 to #55, so this would imply that Motta would be good enough to go in the 2nd round (no guarantee he will):

Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame: 6-5½, 250. Labeled as a "quasi-wide receiver" by one scout. "He's probably the top kid but he's not an all-around guy," another scout said. "I don't know how much he really likes football. I think he does it because it's something he's good at. He'd be more happy being a wide receiver. Good catcher. Athletic."

Manti Te'o, ILB, Notre Dame: 6-2, 255. Compared by one scout to St. Louis MLB James Laurinaitis. "A better version of that," he said. "Not a great athlete. Try-hard. Smart. This was the first year he really got himself in shape. Some of his teammates think he's kind of a phony." The scout made his comment in early December before his bizarre online love relationship was uncovered as a hoax. "He is a tad immature," another scout said last week. "When he comes in the locker room he is going to get abused for about the first month. For a (middle) linebacker you would want him to be more physical and make more plays against the run. He got smoked (against Alabama). He's not explosive but he's got instincts like (Brian) Urlacher."

Zeke Motta, S, Notre Dame: 6-2, 215. In 2011, played alongside Harrison Smith. "He's a poor man's Harrison Smith," said one scout. "Coverage will be the question. He's a little stiff. He does OK in zone. He's an interesting guy at the right price. I'd rather roll with Zeke Motta, who isn't as good athletically as (Georgia's) Bacarri Rambo, but at least I can trust him." Aggressive tackler.

There are two great quotes by Parcells

First, "I collect LB's, I like them and think that you can't have enough of them"

Second, "all the RB's in the league are the same behind a bad OLine"

The second quote could be said of LB's and DLines as well. I think Te'o will be a really good player if he has a solid DLine in front of him. He takes good angles and is a sure tackler. If he has to face two OLineman every play he will be ineffective (just like every other LB in the league)

His first 2 years Teo was a great athlete running around

out of position. His last 2 years he played his position very well, so he isn't athletic any more? I don't see it. He is a very good athlete.

I thought Eifert blocked fine. He wasn't Mike Ditka, but he blocked fine. Kelly split him out to get mismatches. It wasn't Eifert who did that.

I think Te'o got too big there for a while

and it hurt him a bit in pass coverage. I think he slimmed down this year and played much better against the pass. I am interested in seeing how he does in the agility/speed drills at the combine.

I think Eifert is an excellent prospect and that there are a few other big dudes that can run at TE in this draft. This is an excellent draft at that position.

Am I the only one who saw a gut on him

Sounds like football scouting is ripe for moneyball ...

Garbage scouting. How does a scout really know if Tyler Eifert likes to play football. And why would that even matter?

Nate Silver on line one ...

I read that one about Eifert 3 months ago --

word for word. Most of the stuff I've seen gives Eifert credit for much improved blocking. I'm sure that there were some mixed opinions about Te'o. He got a lot of credit for what was great team defense. But Te'o was pretty good about sharing it. He said at one point that Nix deserved a tremendous amount of credit for keeping offensive linemen off of Te'o.

I think all of those comments are old

90% of which is crap planted to drive players values down so their team can get him.

I have also noted scouts want to knock down players

so their teams can scoop them up.

However, if you read the scout comments on the so-called top 18, you'll see that they find something wrong with practically every player. I think they doing CYA in case the player doesn't pan out. I have read a lot of these comments over the years and the general "Yea, but" comments haven't changed much. (They did drool over Andrew Luck.)

pretty obtuse: "i don't know you much he really likes

football" (have you watched him play?) he may not like football, but he'd be happier playing wide receiver, which evidently, is less like playing football. maybe everyone should express their joy by dancing like ray lewis.

There isn't much substance to any of those statements.

Te'o is immature. Huh?!

Eifert only plays football because he's good at it. Huh?!

Motta isn't as good as Harrison Smith, but he's more trustworthy than GA's Rambo. Huh?!

What's so preposterous about questioning Te'o's

from a distance. It's not only impossible, but it's the fast road to stupid.

I hope Eifert torches his ass.
