I wish I fully understood why he doesn't just stick with that philosophy, rather than reverting to the pass-first approach that inevitably ends in trouble. I can't think of a single ranked team Kelly's ND teams have beaten with that approach. It's not how we beat MSU in 2011-2013, or Stanford and Oklahoma in 2012.
Perhaps Kelly gets pass-happy because he wants to impress potential NFL suitors. But that obviously hasn't worked to this point. Even the least competent NFL teams seem to be impressed more by winning than anything else. So why not stick with the approach that succeeds? I'm not a psychiatrist or psychologist, so I don't have the answer.
