Citing sources at both schools, the New Orleans Times-Picayune is reporting that “A&M is making a serious run at hiring LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis for the same position.” This development comes a little over a week after reports first surfaced that A&M had reached out to Chavis to gauge any potential interest.
The Times-Picayune is also reporting that the Aggies are willing to give Chavis a three-year contract that would pay him $1.7 million annually. Chavis currently makes $1.3 million with the Tigers, a figure that was good for fourth nationally in 2014. Muschamp’s new deal with the Tigers, incidentally, currently makes him the highest-paid coordinator in the game at $1.6 million.
