Perhaps Kiel saw the writing on the wall.

All I know is that Martin and Kiel did not get along. Chuck Martin is not a noted developer of QBs, nor is Kelly.

It is a shame, though. He looks like a high level NFL draft pick.

Kiel is in no way a top NFL draft pick.

He is not listed here

and only listed as the 10th best prospect here, 2 spots above EG

Give him a few years. *

But he was highly touted coming out of HS.

And his recruiting cohort (notably including LSU, of course) suggests top college coaches were suitably impressed.

At the very least, it would make sense for Kiel to be thinking in terms of giving himself the best possible grooming for a chance at NFL success.

And no highly touted prospect was ever a bust * *

Kiel doesn't appear to be a bust. *

Better than Golson's.

3,257 yards passing, 59.7% completions, 31 TD/ 13 INT.

They look pretty similar to me

Kiel: 3,254 yards passing, 59.7% completions, 31 TD/ 13 INT.

Golson: 3,355 yards passing, 60.1% completions, 29 TD/ 14 INT.

And Kiel played against worse competition.

One just got benched. *

Kiel played his first year of CFB. He may or may not have fulfilled expectations. But to call a starter a bust is a mistake.
