to a man who was part of ND's Golden Era. Dr. Les Bodnar passed away yesterday at 98. He was the team's Orthopedic surgeon from 1949 until Lou's first year. He also covered other sports and saw other students at the infirmary for many years.
His mind was sharp until the end. His second book, "Notre Dame Sports Medicine" , was published this fall , and he had a book signing the weekend of the Louisville game. His death was peaceful and on his terms: in his home, under Hospice care, surrounded by 7 of his children, and with Fr. Paul Doyle leading prayers.
