the last 2 years at a media press conference:

For Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State: "Justin, what was going through your mind when you were arrested for your second DUI in 2 years, this time going 32 mph over the speed limit at 4:00 A.M.?

For Mike Adams, Ohio State - "Mike, after getting your Coach fired and your school put on probation for the Tattoo scandal , did you have that 'uh-oh' moment when you were arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and subsequently tested positive for marijuana here at the Combine?"

For Chris Rainey, FLorida - "Chris, what were your thoughts when you text-ed that death threat to your ex-girl friend and arrested for felony stalking?"

For Dre Kirkpatrick, Alabama - "Dre, any comments you would like to make about your marijuana possession arrest record for the GM's of NFL teams out there?"

For Bruce Irvin, West Virginia - "Bruce, where do we start? Did you have the feeling that your past problems of drug dealing and robbery arrests were behind you before your recent arrest for destruction of property at a Jimmy John's sandwich shop in Morgantown? Did they put too much mayo on your sandwich or what?"

For Cliff Harris, Oregon. "Cliff, can you walk us through the sequence of events that led to your being arrested for marijuana possession, driving 118 miles per hour, driving with a suspended license, without a seat belt and without insurance? Take your time."

For Jonathan Baldwin, Pittsburgh. "Jonathan, how have you responded to the arrest for indecent assault, harassment and disorderly conduct on a female student? Has it changed your approach to this draft in any way?"

For Jamoris Jenkins CB Florida - Jamoris, do you think your multiple arrests for marijuana possession and then being tasered and arrested after a bar fight will affect NFL teams' opinion of you? And, has the fact that you have fathered four kids with three different women at such a young age come up in any of your team interviews?"

For Marvin Austin, Greg Little, and Robert Quinn, University of North Carolina. "Guys, any second thoughts about having caused shame, embarrassment, probation and the loss of revenue for your school by taking thousands of dollars in improper payments, and if so, are your second thoughts only about getting caught or the wrongdoing?"

Finally, for Cam Newton, Auburn. "Cam, what were your thoughts as the handcuffs were being placed on your wrists for felony charges on burglary, larceny and obstruction of justice? What was going through your mind when you leaped out of that window with laptops under your arm as campus security chased you? And a follow-up, were you in agreement with your father that $180,000 was the right amount a school should pay in exchange for your football services for one year in college?"

Compare all that to the 2013 Combine's actual burning questions of the day before a packed house of drooling media:

"Manti, is it true that you actually had a relationship over the internet with a girl, who unbeknownst to you, turned out not to exist?"

Unfortunately, only the last question is "Man Bites Dog." *

Today's paper- "even though his level of participation in the ruse remains unclear."

Yeah Sam, Manti decided to dishonor his grandmother's death by having his fake girlfriend die on the same day. Makes sense to me, hey I can win the Heisman if I have 2 people die on the same day... That should do it. These people are the worst...

You need to have a father-son talk behind the woodpile

The media are a bunch of feckless bullies

They grill Manti, and not the others, because (1) the Manti story is infinitely larger on a national scale, permeating "regular" news and late-night comedy shows, so the media attention whores know such questions will attract much larger interest, and (2) they know Manti is too decent to haul off and kick their collective asses in response, whereas they have no such assurance with the "police blotter" crowd.

Well put. *
