WVA after moving to the B12 took a bath of red ink and prospects for getting to the black are not good. No doubt there are many more athletic depts out there that are in this position, and throw on all the relaxing of rules regarding recruiting and it's not going to get any better. Of course facilities everywhere are being upgraded to stay competitive as well.
None of this is much of an issue at Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, Alabama, and a few others with huge stadiums, and huge booster programs and deep pocket alumni like Phil Knight. But for most of Div 1 it's a big problem.
