It appears the main reason given that we lost so bad to Alabama is that we had no depth and Kelly was afraid of risking injury. Lemming has chimed in recently that we need "four classes like Alabama" so we can practice hard. I'm lost here. Did we go 12-0 without practicing hard? We didn't have depth during the season either, and Kelly used his "next man in" philosophy to praise young players who stepped up. One can argue we had more after the season because players had time to heal. Also, if you're going to lose anyway, why not risk losing a player by practicing to win. I remember when Ara was not expected to compete against Alabama in '73 because his team did not have the depth of Alabama. Bear Bryant was known to have over 100 players. I don't think Ara decided not to practice hard for that game. Same goes for Devine against Texas in '78. I think Kelly's thinking on this in dangerous but that he's learned his lesson the hard way.
