And it's part of the reason why Pitt and WVU may never play again in the regular season.
As I understand it, that's a big part of the reason why the B1G never played a full round-robin, even when it had only 10 members.
have been forced by the legislatures in their states. FSU-UF was inspired by law I believe. My favorite is that Alabama and Auburn didn't play between 1907 and 1948. Mind you, they had been in the same fricking conference (SIAA, Southern Conference, and finally SEC) for the 41 years they didn't play each other. But it still took threats from the legislature (post-war Alabama didn't have many other problems apparently) to get them to play.
its two major college sports teams remain together in the same conference. So if any conference "poaches" one team, they're gonna have to take the other.
Aggies are the most insufferable fanbase I've encountered.
Just awful in almost every regard.
I spent a summer in San Antonio working with a mix of UT and A&M students. I really enjoyed the UT people. There was something a little different about the A&M people, though I can't quite describe it. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that whenever one of the Texas students would be introducing themselves and mention that they "go to UT," the A&M people would interrupt with an obnoxious comment along the lines of "you mean TU!"
They're the ones who have wrapped themselves in the "little brother" cloak vis-a-vis us, far moreso than Purdue.
Both schools sing about each other when playing all of their opponents:
Texas Fight, Texas Fight,
And it's goodbye to A&M.
Texas Fight, Texas Fight,
And we'll put over one more win.
Texas Fight, Texas Fight,
For it's Texas that we love best.
Hail, Hail, The gang's all here,
And it's good-bye to all the rest!
(YELL)
Yea Orange! Yea White!
Yea Longhorns! Fight! Fight! Fight!
Texas Fight! Texas Fight,
Yea Texas Fight!
Texas Fight! Texas Fight,
Yea Texas Fight!
Note: The line, "Hail, Hail, the gang's all here" is usually replaced with "Give 'em hell, Give 'em hell, Go Horns Go!"
War Hymn. I know UCLA has a brief USC reference in Sons of Westwood.
Insufferable is too kind
I'm not sure the Aggie fans realize they only won the Cotton Bowl this year. Most are acting like they just won the Super Bowl, World Cup, and 100M final all rolled into one.
Texas was rated #1 in all 3 ND-TX Cotton Bowls.
The Jan. 1, 1970 Cotton Bowl (ND vs. TX) was the last Cotton Bowl played on grass until the Jan. 1, 1994 Cotton Bowl (ND vs. TAMU).
I will quietly concur. ( I live in an agricultural area so it's around 50/50 down here.)
