Title: Senior Developer / VP, Product Development
Location: Chicago, IL (River North)
Job Description:
We want to add a Senior Developer to our team at VayStays / GamedayHousing. In 2009 we launched GamedayHousing.com to take over the sports niche of the vacation rental industry as a stepping stone to taking on the entirety of the vacation rental space. Above all we are looking for an individual who is passionate about building game changing products and having fun while doing so.

The Director of Product Development advises the CEO and management team on architecture, design, and maintenance of the VayStays /GamedayHousing platform.

What exactly that means:

• Design and build highly usable and elegant interfaces that delight property owners and their guests alike.
• Collaborate with small teams of passionate marketers, designers, and developers who want to be seen as innovators within our industry.
• Create products that wow customers and peers.
• Help us become more disciplined by instilling great architectual practices and improving how we learn from and and teach one another.
• Join a startup that has demonstrated success and has no where to go but up.

Our core (coding) values:
• Innovation is about taking risk and trying.
• Speed is part of the process, but too much speed kills.
• Code must be peer-reviewed before it is committed.
• Everything you need to create and deploy products can be found in an open source offering of some sort.
• We are language agnostic. We believe in using the best tool to do a job.
• Collaboration is king - you will work with all members of our teams and users when developing solutions to new problems.
• Open source projects are cool, and participating in open source development is even cooler.
• You don't fail you iterate.
• Products are only as good as their marketing plans and vice versa.

Compensation Details:
• We take care of our team members, offering salary/bonus with awesome benefits like unlimited PTO, laptop benefit, work remotely, full bar, snacks, and great co-workers.

Skills & Requirements:

Job Requirements:
• Expert ability in a scalable language from one of the following (Python, PHP, Ruby). You write, test, and launch your own code and are a team multiplier.
• At least 4 years experience building web applications.
• Experienced with using source control (e.g. Git)
• Familiarity with Rails, Zend, or other popular open platforms is very helpful.
• MySQL or equivalent experience required.
• Enjoy working in a collegial and challenging environment.
• Love to learn and are comfortable failing.
• Great communicator. Developer can give and receive good and bad news.
• Experience in mobile not a requirement but very helpful.
Possess a strong work ethic, a commitment to excellent customer service and teamwork, and an ability to integrate rapidly with an existing team.

Other stuff that really matters:
• You have to be interested in solving the new and different problems. Where we're going looks like home but no one has ever gone before.
• You will need to be able to be humble and confident at the same time, a true team player.
• Honesty and hard work are valued by you and us moreso than innate talent.
• You must be in the Chicago area or willing to relocate. Remote work is ok on occasion but not the norm.

About GamedayHousing / VayStays:

In 2009 we launched GamedayHousing.com: a vacation rental market for sports, linking big groups of fans with big home rentals for big sporting events throughout North America (and recently the globe!). We make money by charging owners of properties a 20% commission on every rental we arrange and have bootstrapped the business from 1 home in 2009 to more than 1,000 properties across 40 locations today. Our average rental ticket is nearly $2,000 for a two night stay.

We targeted the sporting niche in 2009 because we knew it and saw an opportunity to own it. Now we do, but that wasn't our only goal. We also wanted to perfect our service model and marketing practices so that one day we could branch out into other niches as well as the broader 'traditional' vacation rental market that has grown at a rapid clip to $82.3 billion in annual revenue globally in 2012.

The day has come to swim into a bigger pond and we are now rapidly approaching the launch of our most exciting brand and product: VayStays.com. With VayStays we're building out a product custom designed for owners of luxury vacation rental properties and their guests. Our management team has a proven track record of building successful operating businesses.
