In reply to: Always amazed that Michigan can be competitive in...  posted by thethinman

Hutchins has been at Michigan for over 30 years. She has been able to build significant contacts over that time. She also is a damn good coach. Most of the D I softball coaches like Tim Walton (Florida) and Patrick Murphy (Alabama) have local pipelines that bring in talent every year. In Walton's case, his pipeline has been predominately FL and CA. This year, he signed his first girl from GA, Kelly Barnhill. She was ranked the #1 pitcher in the nation last year. She is 14-0 as the #3 pitcher at FL. It was between FL and Stanford for her services.

I should note that Sierra Lawrence, Michigan's CF from GA, took/takes hitting lessons from my daughter's hitting instructor. Her mom (a single mom) worked 3 jobs to make sure her daughter had all the tools necessary to compete at the DI level.

While that is a feel good story ... I hope we rip the soul out of Michigan.
