Congrats to UVa, first NCAA champ from ACC in 60 years.

Hey, can I ask a dumb question? Why ear flaps on both ears? Is that for errant balls on the basepaths?

That team was the 9th seed in the Big East tournament, but won it to get the NCAA auto-bid and then won the national championship. This year, Virginia was the 7th seed in the ACC tournament, and belly-flopped in the round robin, going 0-3 (including an 8-2 loss to ND). But they still earned an at-large bid, had a favorable schedule in the Regionals and Super Regionals, and then slayed SEC powers Florida and Vanderbilt in Omaha.

I was very surprised to learn that Wake Forest in 1955 was the last ACC team to win the CWS before tonight. But FSU never has won it (nor has Florida, by the way), and Miami's four titles all came while they were an independent in baseball (which they were even while in the Big East for most other sports). The three schools with the most CWS appearances without a title are all from the ACC -- FSU (21, including 11 before they joined the ACC), Clemson (12) and UNC (10).
