ND got an early run to go up 1-0 but then everything started going Rutgers' way. We would total 4 errors that kept allowing runners on base. Rutgers also benefited from a disputed home run/foul call that gave them a 4-1 lead. There was no reaction from the dugout or the stands until the 3rd base ump signalled homerun.
As the 7th inning started, ND was down 6-1. With only one eligible player remaining to PH & PR, the team strung together a series of hits and drew a couple walks to cut the lead to 6-3 before recoding an out. Several more hits made it a one run game. The 9th batter of the inning came up with runners and 1st & 2nd and 2 outs. On a 0-2 pitch thrown shoulder high, Whidden crushed a 3R walk-off HR to complete the comeback and win 8-6.
A very successful weekend and the first sweep on Strikeout Cancer weekend. The numbers are still being tallied but the current total amount raised for cancer research is over $22,000.
