He was involved in several big controversies involving The Master's, and the club itself, but in my memory the biggest was his refusal to allow Martha Burk to join the club in '03.

on his own the question of qualifications for membership; he was just the guy who got the "credit" for the club's decision.


The credit for the Hootie letter was evidently his alone. *

I think he called it flooding the box or something. As editor, basically he pushed story after story about her campaign against the Augusta National. Burk then had her protest. This sign is what I think of first. (I'm not supporting Hootie).
