I can still hear him right after the USC game - "ND is playing for the national championship on January 7. This is the best birthday gift ever!!!". Such elation is a far cry from the days when he would sit through another painful ND loss, asking me sorrowfully, "when are they ever going to be good?"
Today hopefully also marks my brother's return to work following surgery to remove his colon cancer. The good news is that there's no sign of metastases following months of chemo. Bro has been a trouper through it all.
I hope and pray for N19, broND'80, and ND fans everywhere to enjoy the happiness of a Notre Dame national championship by this time tomorrow. Cherish the magic of this wonderful season, and GO IRISH!!!
