Does anybody know how sync a Dish remote with AV system?

Google hasn't helped. Previous Dish DVR remote had same SAT, TV, DVD and AUX buttons which could operate through the AV system. Now I upgraded to a VIP 612 DVR which works fine, except its remote control does not manuever the AV system.
Any ideas? Much obliged.
