Russell Kirk wrote an expansive (really, it's a bit too long for the topic)

. But he gives a really good run down of recommended classics that can be gleaned by skimming.
Dr Zhivago, The Brothers Karamazov, David Copperfield.
Aren't Pasternak and Dostoyesvky
They were on my Soph high school reading list.
I read some of those at a C.B. high school too
God love them, but its also on the frosh seminar list at ND *
