Ours began to leak, a small one, about 2 weeks ago.

I went out looking for a replacement, and thought, "Is my current one under warranty?"

It was a Sears Kenmore 50 gal. with a 12 year warranty. Bought it in 2004.

After struggling with the math, I called the Sears 800 number. The lady was not too keen to support my warranty claim, and asserted it was a 6 year warranty. After a lengthy, persistent assertion on my part [12 year and residential-only requirement met] she set up an $75 visit from an Inspector.

The inspector agreed on the leakage and the 12 year part.

The comparable model was put in place today. $200 install charge. $665 water heater replaced for $0.
