Clausen Is Irish

posted by Scott Engler

Jimmy Clausen, the most highly regarded quarterback from California since John Elway, turned down the Trojans to come to South Bend and play for Coach Weis. The 6-foot-3, 207-pounder, has thrown 88 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions in his past two seasons at Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, Calif., his team averaging 53 points a game. He is 27-0 as a starter, has completed 68 percent of his passes over the last two years and has thrown for 7,234 career yards. Clausen said competition from other quarterbacks wasn't a factor in his decision. "Honestly, I think it pretty much just came down to coach Weis for me. Any high school quarterback would want to play for coach. There's something about him. He's from New Jersey, so he's got a little swagger to him... I want the #1 recruiting class in the nation. There’s a lot of guys here today and I’m going to try to talk to them…I look forward to doing whatever I can to help us win the national championship."

This is truly an indication of where Charlie Weis has taken this program. Ty had one good class, but now it looks as if Charlie is in position to land one for the ages to follow up last years haul.

This is a GREAT day for the Irish! Look at how Weis turned Quinn around, and now just imagine how good the ND offense will look when they have the #1 prospect in the country! It's going to be like Charlie with Peyton Manning! The question now is, will Demetrious Jones move to receiver and what happens to Sharpley and Frazier? Great day for the Irish and bad news for USC and everybody else. Pete Carroll will not be getting much sleep at night because we all know that Charlie took him to coaching school and (If the refs aren't pac 10 refs) beat a USC team with about 10 times the talent of ND. Now just wait and see what happens when Charlie get better talent! Go Irish!

Someone get Charlie a lifetime membership to SlimFast, Jennie Craig, Weight Watchers and we will be golden for years to come. He's the real deal. Let's just hope he remains healthy. Truly, that may be the only thing that stops this momentum.

Hopefully, my daughter will get into ND, and join Jimmy in the Class of 2011, enjoying fall Saturdays more than I did with Gerry.

Living in Orange Co. Ca. and being a fanatical Irish fan can be tough. I am surrounded by usc alumni and bandstanders. Irish picking up Clauson is another of many great steps ND has made. usc (lower case on purpose) will need alot more than the bush push to win. Remember you cannot spell suck without usc. GO IRISH!!!
